David Ornstein has provided a fresh update on reports of Liverpool’s interest in Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.
Reports from multiple German news outlets revealed that the German international is wanted by Liverpool.
Bayern Munich have long been considered the frontrunners for his signature, but recent developments suggest the race remains wide open.
For example, the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger reported that, contrary to media narratives portraying Wirtz as Bayern-bound, the 22-year-old has not decided on his next club.
The report revealed that Wirtz’s representatives have had detailed discussions with both Manchester City and Liverpool?
The report also suggested that Liverpool would be able to pay the transfer fee involved in a possible deal.
However, reliable journalist David Ornstein has now cast some doubt on the deal, revealing that while Liverpool are keen on Wirtz, it is unclear at this time if the German is interested in leaving Germany.
“Liverpool make contact with Florian Wirtz’s camp to express interest in signing playmaker if he leaves Bayer Leverkusen and is keen on moving to England,” Ornstein wrote for the Athletic.
“Liverpool’s admiration long-standing but unclear whether the 22-year-old plans to exit Bayer Leverkusen or Germany”
